It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Superman.
No matter where you live or how old you are, you know who Superman is. He's fought everyone, lost a few times, died a few more times, had a bit too many tv shows then he really should have had and even turned his back on the US, giving up his citizenship, despite all this we still love him and America is proud to call him one of their own!
The story arc starts when Superman is battling a seemingly unstoppable killing machine called Doomsday in the middle of the city. Doomsday and Superman end up dying from their wounds and Superman dies in Lois’ arms. His funeral that followed had many of Superman’s allies including Batman, Robin, Green Lantern, Green Arrow and Guy Gardner both of whom didn’t even get along with Superman where there. Then President of America Bill Clinton and his wife were even drawn into the scene. Jonathan Kent took the death of his son the hardest and suffered a heart attack from the grief. The writer’s explain how his resurrection is due to the fact that his Kryptonian genetics allowed him to survive and he didn’t actually die, he just went into a hibernation like state, and in fact due to this Superman can never truly die from being beaten to death, it would take something extraordinary to actually kill him. 40 |
Jean Grey: True Phoenix
Jean Grey died for the first time piloting a crashing space shuttle in Uncanny X-Men #101 (October 1976). She kelps the X Men escape the Starcore space station and pilots a shuttle through a radioactive solar flare. We also learn that if she never died she wouldn’t have been able to become Phoenix. The second time she commits suicide on the Moon, this takes place in Uncanny X Men #137 (September 1980). After she becomes Dark Phoenix and caused deaths so to make up for it she kills herself. Only it wasn’t really her, it was a Phoenix-created clone. Sip past four more deaths and we come to numbersix. While trapped on an asteroid with Wolverine that is plunging into the sun, in order to save her from the painful and slow process of being incinerated Wolverine stabs her. Her death yet again awakens the Phoenix force and she saves them both and flies them back to earth.
In the whole Marvel universe, counting tv shows, movies and comics, alternate universes and all Jean Grey has died a total of 20 times. She never does stay dead though, at the current moment according to my research she is dead and we are all waiting to see how the Phoenix force saves her yet again. 41 |
Captian America R.I.P
In the aftermath of Civil Wars, Captain America is arrested by
S.H.I.E.L.D. where upon entering the building he is assassinated. His sidekick
Bucky Barnes blames Tony Stark and is on a mission to kill him. Tony Stark
however receives a letter written by Steve Rogers telling him that Captain
America shouldn’t end with him, and that Tony should look out for Bucky when he’s
the new Captain.
Captain America’s death is even mentioned on CNN and gets ratings that rival the coverage of 9/11. One year later we find out that he never really died. The bullet transported him to another point in space and time. The man who was behind his assassination to start with. 42. 43. |
